Our Purpose
Be Brave Now is organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes, including empowering individuals and families with the knowledge, resources, education, and support needed to proactively navigate healthcare decisions, healthcare transitions, advance care planning, and related legal, social, and practical matters. The organization seeks to reduce confusion and unnecessary hardship by providing education, connecting individuals and families with qualified resources and professionals, and helping them prepare for and navigate transitions in healthcare and life with greater knowledge, confidence, dignity, and compassion.
Your Health. Your Choices. Your Voice.
Healthcare can be complicated.
Put Your Wishes in Writing. Choose Who Will Speak for You.
When the Hospital Stay Ends, Your Care Doesn’t.
Because They Depend on You.
And You Should Know Who Will Care for Them.

Why We Are Called "Be Brave Now"
The name Be Brave Now came from my father.
As his health declined, my family and I were faced with decisions that no family ever wants to make. We had to talk about his wishes, his care, who would speak for him, and what mattered most to him.
One of the most meaningful things I said to my father during that time was:
“Dad, I need you to be brave now—the way you taught me to be brave.”
He had spent my entire life teaching me what courage looked like.
Now it was my turn to ask him to be courageous—not by fighting something he couldn’t control, but by telling us what he wanted, allowing us to understand his wishes, and helping us know how to honor them.
That moment stayed with me.
Because I realized how many families reach these moments completely unprepared.
They don’t know what questions to ask.
They don’t know who will speak for them.
They don’t know where important documents are.
They don’t know what their loved one wants.
And sometimes, they don’t even know where to turn.
Be Brave Now was born from that realization.
It is a reminder that courage isn’t always about fighting harder.
Sometimes courage is having the conversation.
Sometimes it’s making the plan.
Sometimes it’s saying what you want while you still can.
And sometimes it’s simply telling someone you love:
“I need you to be brave now.”
That is what Be Brave Now means to us.
Prepare before the crisis.
Know your choices.
Make your wishes known.
And give the people you love the guidance they need to honor them.
